DeVante Draine
Voice
De Vante Draine, tenor, is a graduate of Capital University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music where he was a student of Dr. Chad Payton and the late Mark Baker. While at Capital, DeVante sang with the Chordsmen, Capital University Chapel Choir, and participated in numerous productions with the Opera and Musical Theatre Department.
In addition to DeVante’s opera and musical theatre background he has also been trained in the styles of jazz, rock, and pop. As a performer he has been seen in numerous roles as Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, Nanki-Poo in The Mikado, The Mysterious Man in Into The Woods, and Fred Graham in Kiss Me, Kate.
DeVante is a true believer in the phrase “everyone can sing” by taking the basic speaking voice and applying it to notes on the page. In the voice studio, he teaches a foundational technique that not only can be applied to multiple genres and styles but also give the student the longevity to sing for many years to come. DeVante not only strives for comfortability in the studio, but also creates a safe space for creativity and expression. As a huge part of singing he also works with his students to interpret the songs, which makes for personal and educated performances.
DeVante has worked with students of all ages and abilities and is constantly inspired by music’s “little moments.”
